Begonia ‘Pink Diamond’
Begonia ‘Pink Diamond’ is a very nice rex cultivar hybridized by John Howell of San Antonio, Texas. John was an enthusiastic hobbyist who was breeding rex begonias for heat tolerance. It seems he was successful with this variety. The leaves are medium large, silver with a pinkish glow. It has a compact, full growth habit. When grown in the heat make sure it is watered well. Providing it with extra humidity will help it thrive, such as growing it near a garden pond or fountain. Like many rex hybrids, the colors in the leaves tend to vary depending on season. Colors tend to dull in the heat of summer but will become more vibrant again as the weather cools.
