Begonia U038
This species from Sarawak, Malaysia on the island of Borneo was misidentified as B. chlorosticta. It has been considered the green form of B. chlorosticta. But, it has now been confirmed that it is a different species from B. chlorosticta (dark or red form). It had been assigned a U number in the early 1980’s so it will be identified by the original U number until it is named, which is U038.
The elliptic shaped leaves of this shrub-like begonia are olive green with chartreuse blotches. The main veins near the point of petiole attachment are red. It has a shrubby growth habit and likes lots of humidity. It is usually grown in a terrarium but will do well in a humid greenhouse. The flowers are white.
Note: This begonia is likely to lose many leaves in transit or have crispy edges when it arrives, which is very normal. It is HIGHLY recommended that these are shipped with an expedited shipping method (Overnight or 2Day).
